Building 200 New Units of
Supportive Housing

Last year Urban Pathways implemented a "housing first" approach throughout our outreach and drop in center programs.  Our goal is to insure single adults move rapidly and directly into housing from the street.  To ensure that clients who become stable and are ready for housing have a place to live and to support the City's plan to reduce chronic homelessness by two-thirds, we established a goal of developing 200 new units of supportive housing.  Over the past 12 months, UP has worked aggressively to fulfill this goal – and we are pleased to report that 201 units will be in development by the end of 2008.  In the first quarter of 2008, we will break ground on Hughes House, a 55-unit residence in the South Bronx.   In addition, we are currently conducting site searches for two additional 60-unit residences and a 26-apartment scattered-site program.

Residence Four (temporary name)

On March 22nd, UP received a set-aside (bed commitment) from the NYS Office of Mental Health to develop a 60-unit residence.  The residence will house 100% chronic street homeless adults who are seriously and persistently mentally ill.  UP is currently conducting a site search for an appropriate vacant lot to house the project.

Time Line
  • Site control and purchase by June 2008
  • Architectural drawings finalized by September 2009
  • Construction to begin by March 2010

Residence Five (temporary name)

On October 8th, UP received a set-aside (bed commitment) from the NYC Department of Hygiene and Mental Health to develop a 60-unit residence.  The residence will house 100% chronic street homeless adults who are seriously and persistently mentally ill.  UP is currently conducting a site search for an appropriate vacant lot to house the project.
