Help provide critical service to our homeless clients at The Olivieri Drop-In Center

Urban Pathways is looking for a volunteers to work with clients at overnight respite sites in Manhattan. Urban Pathways' Olivieri Drop-In Center participates in the Emergency Shelter Network Respite Bed Program, a group of volunteer-run emergency respite sites hosted by various congregations and community organizations throughout New York City.   When the Center closes at 7 P.M. our clients are transported to a network respite site via bus.  The network site, from 7 P.M. to 7 A.M., provides overnight accommodations that are caring and safe; clients may receive services such as case management, housing and employment assistance, psychiatric and medical health care, meals, and access to showers, laundry, phone, and mail facilities.

Volunteers are fully trained and provided with 24-hour staff support.  The commitment asked of each volunteer is 7 P.M.-7 A.M. 1-4 nights per month.

Goldman Sachs Community TeamWorks
Volunteers Partner with Hegeman Safe Haven

Goldman Sachs Community TeamWorks

On Friday, June 3rd, 2011, volunteers from Goldman Sachs Community TeamWorks donated their time to help Hegeman Safe Haven residents spruce up theirgarden with new plants and flowers.  The 9 volunteers planted nearly 100 flowers, weeded, and sowed grass seed in the front, side and back yards of the building before preparing a barbecue lunch for the residents.  Thank you to Urban Pathways Board Members Keith Berger and Adam Heft, Junior Board Members Drew Maliniak and Phoebe Medeiros, and all the volunteers who came out.  It looks beautiful!

For more information about the Hegeman Safe Haven or Urban Pathways' housing programs, please contact Karen Trella at 212-736-7385, ext. 215 or ktrella@urbanpathways.org.

One of Urban Pathways' main strategies to fulfill its mission is the development of ground-breaking program models designed to, on one hand move clients rapidly and directly into permanent housing from our street outreach and drop-in center programs yet still include supportive services to address each client's most basic needs, including freshly prepared, nutritious meals, showers and medical attention.  Each year, Urban Pathways spends over $100,000 on products related to meeting these needs.  Freeing up even a portion of this expense in our tight operating budget will allow program directors to increase critical services such as medical attention and housing placement and expedite our clients' move down the road to permanent housing.
