George Washington Bridge
Bus Station Outreach Program

In October 2000, Urban Pathways received the contract for an outreach program from the Port Authority of NY and NJ at the George Washington Bridge Bus Station.  The office is located on the lower level of the bus station where homeless individuals are self-referred, referred and/or escorted by the Port Authority police or other providers in NY and NJ.  Staff members perform outreach in and around the bus station daily.

Most served at the bus station are NYC homeless or stranded residents from different Counties of N.J. where there is a lack of available services.  The outreach team creatively addresses the needs of its client population by providing engagement, assessment, case management, and referral services in order to reduce recidivism.  The program facilitates harm reduction supplies, maintains strong ties to the community's other service providers, and has instituted an intensive one-on-one case management approach.
